SECOND place is as good as Swindon College Old Boys can hope for this season, according to Mark Roshier, and to manage that the head coach reckons his side will still have to win each of their remaining matches.

Old Boys currently sit third in the Berks/Bucks & Oxon Premier and return to action with a trip to Phoenix this weekend.

With Stow-on-the-Wold some 18 points ahead in top spot and running away with the title, Roshier has set his sights on overhauling Chipping Norton in the final eight games of the campaign. To do so, however, he has stressed that College require a 100 per cent record.

He said: “This period now, the next two weeks or so, will define our season as such. Stow have pretty much won the league. We need to win all our games from now until the end of the season if we want to come second in that league or win that league, but we also need results to go our way.

“The best case scenario for us is to come second but we’ve got to win every game except potentially against Stow. The next two weeks could determine our season and where we go to - whether we’re looking at promotion or a third-place finish again.”

Old Boys have a full-strength squad available to face Phoenix, who they edged past 12-6 when the two sides met earlier this term.

“It was early in the season and perhaps we weren’t firing on all cylinders but they are a proven team, they are always top half of the table.

“They’ve won some games that potentially, on paper, they shouldn’t have won. I always say it’s not paper that plays and it’s a game that we should win, on paper, but you never know.

“This week’s priority is a win and then if the bonus point comes then great.

“Our points scoring record is not good considering where we are in the league so we need to try to do a bit more about that.”
