MINETY seconds ran in a try in each half to edge out Calne in a closely-fought Dorset & Wilts Three North contest.

Both teams started strongly but steady defence all round made it hard to score. Calne were first to blink, conceding a penalty on the 22 which Minety’s Andy Edwards kicked to give his side a three-point lead.

After that, Minety began to make inroads thanks to a concerted effort from their forwards. Spreading the ball wide, winger Sam Stevenson jinked past defenders for the opening try.

Calne struck early in the second half, catching the visitors napping with a quick try.

Regaining their composure, Minety soon had their pack going again.

Prop Morgan Lightbody made ground, as did Academy lock and man of the match Josh Gainey.

The pressure told as scrum-half Dellam Murray took a quick tap before sending Lightbody crashing over, Edwards adding the conversion.
