WILTSHIRE Academy ended their tour of Dubai with a record of three wins and two defeats.
After one win and one defeat from their first two matches, the county’s starlets took on the United Arab Emirates Under 19s in their third encounter.
Giorgio Rigali of Swindon took 2-39 and Tom Foley of Corsham grabbed 4-25 to restrict the UAE to 124 all out in response to the tourists’ 183 all out, meaning Wiltshire won by 59 runs.
Next up for the academy was Emal, in a fixture played at the Dubai Sports City. Swindon youngster Jake Goodwin took 1-25 as Emal managed 159 all out before Trowbridge’s Mike Reynolds made an unbeaten 59 as Wiltshire chased down their target for the loss of just three wickets.
The county’s final match of the tour was against Telly Cherry, a side which contained many ex-Indian professionals.
Some excellent batting helped Wiltshire post 238-3, as Toby Davies made 111 and Neil Clark 76 not out, but Telly Cherry won by six wickets.
Meanwhile, Wootton Bassett skipper Darren Beasant expects new signing Rog Willoughby to make an impression with the Wiltshire League Division One club this season.
He said of the all-rounder: “Rog Willoughby, who played with me at Swindon when I was club captain there, is going to come and join us.
“He was the leading batter and bowler in Wilts 2 last year and he can play at a higher level.
“Rog will come over and play, he’ll probably take the new ball and will hopefully contribute some runs as well.”
Beasant is also after a spin bowler to add to his arsenal ahead of the start of the new season.
“Everyone wants a good slow bowler and if we can get one of those you’d hope we’d have the basis of a squad that can challenge.”
