BROMHAM youngster Libby Seed is hoping to sign off her final season as a pony rider by securing a place on the Great Britain team for this year’s European Championships.

The 15-year-old, a student at Dauntsey’s School, has been shortlisted for the British pony squad with her ride Mr Vick and is aiming to make it all the way to the FEI European Pony Championships in Arezzo, Italy, in November.

Seed is out to impress selectors at five trial events this summer, the first getting underway at Oasby, Lincolnshire, on March 7, with what she is hoping will be her best form this season.

“I’m really excited about this year,” said Seed.

“It’s my last year riding ponies and I’d love to go the European Championships.

“It’s going to be hard to get there but I think that if I do my best, I’ve got a chance.

“I did a training camp with Judy Harvey (former international dressage rider and judge) earlier this month and I can’t wait to get started now.

“But it is going to be tough because I’ve got my GCSEs to do at school this year too.”

Seed won the open section at the first round of the Jumping & Style pre-season series earlier this month and last August, finished 26th out of a 150-strong field of mostly adult riders at the CIC* competition in Haras Du Pin, France, her first international event.

The Bromham youngster studies under Maggie Doel, at the Avon Vale Pony Club, and has also been taken under the wing of Little Cheverell-based Australian international Lucinda Fredericks.
