WILTSHIRE narrowly missed out on victory in the inter-county road race fixture against Dorset at the Lytchett 10.

Nathan Blunden of Swindon Harriers finished 26th overall in 1:02:08 while on the women’s side, Sam Kelly of Wootton Bassett Hounds was 63rd in 1:06:12.

The 50k world record holder, Steve Way, broke the eight-year-old course record with a time of 51:46 at the event near Poole.

That was enough for the Bournemouth AC runner to beat Simon Plummer (Salisbury A&RC) into second with Kyle Pepperman-Hackett - a Poole Runner but competing for Wiltshire - in third.

Kelly led the way for Wiltshire in the women’s race but they also had to settle for second behind their hosts.
