SWINDON Dolphin made an impressive start to the Wiltshire County Youth Championships at the weekend as they won 15 of the 22 senior titles on offer at the Link Centre.

The club's younger swimmers got in on the act as well as they claimed 10 junior championship golds in the first two days of the three-day competition, the last of which is this Saturday.

Dolphin lead both the senior and junior championship medal tables heading into the final day of action.

Jon Audis, 32, continued to set the standard for backstrokers in the county, retaining the 100m title he first won in 2002.

The experienced flyer also picked up gold in the 50m butterfly, 100m butterfly and 100m individual medley.

Rebecca Flack, who claimed her first senior title in the 50m breaststroke.

Eighteen-year-old James Clark was in superb form as he notched up no fewer than five championship victories including the 400m individual medley .

Other Dolphin swimmers taking home senior trophies were Mathew Sambrook, who also broke the club record for the 400m freestyle, Charlotte Gardo, Charlotte Pitts and Georgina Pitts.

Dolphin also had a profitable time in the relays, winning three of the four events.

In the 50m freestyle skins competition, Dolphin has to settle for silver in both the men's and women's event with Clark and Charlotte Pitts missing out.

Dolphin's junior championship winners were Liam Jefferies, Lauren Matthews, Adam Coleman, Rebecca Flack and Georgina Pitts.

Chief coach Louise Clayton said she was delighted with how the club’s swimmers had performed.

"I am very pleased with the whole squad,” she said.

“The medallists obviously take the headlines, but all of our swimmers performed well and are progressing in the right direction."

"We still have one more day of competition and we still have targets as a team and individuals.

“They have set the bar high on the first weekend but I am confident that all the swimmers will be looking for further improvement."

  • SWINDON-BORN Olympic queen Hannah Miley starred at the BUCS Long Course Championships in Sheffield.

She finished half a second shy of the Scottish record with a personal best 8:33.98 to win the 800m freestyle on the opening night.

The following afternoon, the 23-year-old clocked the fastest time in the world this year over 400m IM to take her second gold in 4:36.08.
