CALNE youngster Simon Nott’s personal best was not quite enough to secure victory at Sunday’s Devizes 10k – event two in this year’s Wiltshire Road Race League.
Nott, of Calne Running Club, clocked 32 minutes and 10 seconds, just behind Salisbury A&RC’s Simon Plummer’s storming 31:49.
Ewen Malloch, of Team Bath, was third in 33:51 and is now the leading league points scorer. Denise Grech, of Calne SMaRTT, clocked a new personal best of 40:01 to take victory in the women’s race, ahead of Michelle Maxwell, of Chippenham Harriers, who, along with Sue Stewart-Tanner and Katherine Walters claimed the ladies’ team prize.
Stewart Tanner was top female vet 50, with Gary Harriers’ Dunstone the first male vet 40.
Jill Westwood, of Avon Valley Runners, is the league’s leading female points scorer and with Michael Towler finishing fifth, Avon Valley Runners who took the maximum points to enjoy a four-point lead at the top of Division One over Harriers.
In Division Two, Frome Running Club have opened up a massive 21-point lead.
The next event in the Wiltshire Race League, sponsored by the Gazette & Herald’s parent company Newsquest, is the Clock Change Challenge 10K at Calne on March 31.
