KNOCKOUT Cup giant killers Lacock FC featured in only their second Division Three league outing of 2013 and once again it the 3G pitch at Stanley Park that came to their rescue otherwise their scheduled game with Bratton Reserves would have fallen victim of the weather.

Like their previous game on the all-weather surface that they won 8-1 they scooped the spoils again thanks to a 7-1 win.

Lacock got off to the perfect start and took the lead on 40 seconds when Andy Wilkins curled home a stunning strike from 20 yards out.

Wilkins added a second prior to half time and it was as good as game over when Simon Gray fired in the third of the afternoon.

Mark Coles netted a second half double for Lacock, Sam Sibbick and Sam Hodsall’s singles made up the victors' seven. Tom Bull replied for Bratton when they were 5-0 down.

Things could have been a lot worse for Bratton had keeper Matthew Gardiner not produced a number of good stops before Lacock scored two late goals to wrap up what was in the end a comfortable win.

Polenez Westbury 2 The Fleece FC 3

AFTER beating fierce rivals United FC last time out Polenez Westbury would have been looking to build on that victory when they hosted The Fleece in what was their first of four home fixtures this month.

The hosts will be hoping that their next outing will finish better than this one did as the visitors who beat their opponents 5-1 earlier in the season came from two down to claim a 3-2 win that was spoiled by a late red card for Simon Parfitt.

Polenez led through Robert Pawlowski’s goal and when Miroslaw Uszpelkat doubled their lead it looked as if an upset was possible, however a tremendous volley from Simon Parfitt got Fleece back in the game just before half time.

After the break, Nick Gleeson restored parity when he scored from the penalty spot after Dean Murden had been fouled and a great team move led to Sam Simpson setting up James Cameron to hit the winner, which came as a great relief for the player who had earlier missed two easier efforts at goal.

United FC v Bradford United Reserves - postponed

BRADFORD United Reserves were far from happy with opponents United FC whose players were unwilling to switch their game from Clarendon Academy to Trowbridge Cricket Club, a journey of two miles to the other side of Trowbridge.

Bradford, who were hoping to make the most of leaders Westwood News inactivity, were seeking a victory over their hosts that would have seen them close the gap at the top to eight points.

Bradford’s saw their chance to stretch their unbeaten run to seven games disappear once referee Melvin Sullivan who was at a loss as to why the game hadn’t been called off earlier due to the standing water all over the pitch had no other option than to postpone it with the pitch unplayable.
