RUGBY: Chippenham 15 Exmouth 19

CHIPPENHAM narrowly failed to inflict another defeat on a promotion-chasing side in National Three South West as second-placed Exmouth narrowly secured victory.

The home side, who had upset high-flying Weston super Mare the previous weekm, started the brighter and Lewis Surry went over for his 18th try of the season on 12 minutes, Chris Simmons converting.

Exmouth responded with a well-worked try on the half hour and, after the break, a converted try gave them the lead.

Chippenham hit back with a penalty by Simmons, but a third Exmouth try took them further clear.

The home side threw everything at their opponents and on 67 minutes were rewarded with a Jon Turner try.

But despite pressing for the winning score, Chippenham were unable to break through again.
