RUGBY: Minety 17 Avonvale 5
5:00pm Tuesday 12th March 2013 in Latest Sport News
MINETY edged themselves clear of the Dorset & Wilts One North drop zone, although they failed to gather a bonus point in muddy conditions against the division’s bottom side.
Due to late arrivals, Avonvale played with only 14 players for the first 30 minutes and went behind as home fly-half Duncan Simpson scuttled in for a try under the posts.
Centre Michael New slotted the conversion and added a try minutes later, despite pulling a hamstring, after Minety caught out their opponents with a run from their own 22.
In worsening conditions, lock Ashely Windle dived over from short range for Minety’s third try after Avonvale had failed to deal with a kick.
Avonvale got on the board as skipper George Hobbs burrowed over from a tapped penalty.
Morgan Lightfoot, Ben Scott and Alan Brown scored tries, fly-half Andy Edwards kicking two conversions, as Minety 2nd were beaten 53-19 by Trowbridge 3rd in Dorset & Wilts Three North.
