FOOTBALL: Vics pay the penalty

GARETH Davies is hoping his Malmesbury Victoria side learned a harsh lesson in their loss to Easington Sports last weekend.
The Vics were undone when a strike from an Easington player hit Michael Solan in the box, and as the home defence waited for a penalty to be awarded, the visitors’ Matt Keenan took advantage and fired home the only goal of the game.
“I just can’t figure out how we lost that game – we’re an inexperienced side and it tells,” said the Flying Monk Ground boss. “Their player’s had a shot and its hit our guy from two or three yards.
“They start screaming for a penalty but our players just stop because they’re expecting it to be given.
“Their guy carries on, puts it in the net and we lose the game.
“It’s frustrating because we didn’t deserve it.
“Nobody means to make mistakes but we need to try and make sure that we learn from them or it’ll be very long and hard season.”
