TAPES-UP: Rossiter urges Swindon Robins to attack
ALUN Rossiter will instruct his riders to attack from the off at Wimborne Road tonight and has no intention of simply defending their 10-point lead.
The Robins are well in control of their Elite League semi-final with Poole following last Monday’s first leg, and a similarly polished display tonight will earn Swindon the right to contest their second straight grand final.
But Rossiter has no intention of entering the meeting on the back foot and has aspirations of not just winning the tie, but also claiming victory on the night.
“If you go down there trying to hang onto leads that’s when mistakes happen, and we know we are good enough to go down there and win the meeting,” he said.
“We can finish them off, and we finished second in the league despite a few things going on and a few mistakes were made.
“We have the potential of doing something very special and the best way of making sure we have the chance of doing that is by going out and winning the meeting.”
Rossiter believes Troy Batchelor’s final bend move on Maciej Janowski shows how much the Robins riders want back-to-back titles, and is also delighted to see the Australian called up for his Grand Prix debut in Torun on Saturday.
“Troy’s last race dive under Janowski on the final bend just shows the determination and the want to win, and that’s great from him,” he said.
“I get fed up seeing the Danes and others calling up riders who have had a go at the GP before and maybe not produced, and then get another go.
“Troy deserves his chance and has been champing at the bit to do it, and he’s ready for it.
“I’ve always been a big fan of Troy, and he really is capable of competing at that level.”
