CHIPPENHAM TOWN: Balancing act keeps Winter on the ball
STEVE Winter believes finding the perfect balance to his Chippenham Town side will take time but was pleased to see his side take all three points last weekend.
Chippenham saw off Redditch United thanks to Alan Griffin’s hat-trick at Hardenhuish Park, recovering from a disheartening defeat at the hands of Bedford Town seven days earlier.
Winter is still looking to add to his squad, the Bluebirds boss making a number of approaches for players last week, but reiterated that he will do his homework on potential additions before making signings.
“Things are going to take time. By Christmas, I should be there or thereabouts with where I want to be,” said Winter.
“People understand the way that I want to play football and they’re embracing it really well at the moment.
“It’s evident to see that I still need to bring in a couple of players but I’m just not going to rush in to it. I want to have a really good think about where we need to improve and get the right man in.
“I’ve approached a few players and they’ve decided to stay where they are.
“Just because it’s a higher league, that doesn’t mean that they want to come. The young ones nowadays just want to play with their friends.
“Back in my day if anyone offered me the chance to make a few steps up, I’d jump at the chance but it doesn’t work like that nowadays.
“But hopefully we’ll be able to get the people we want over the next month or so.”
Winter’s side face two away trips in four days, starting on Saturday at Burnham before the long journey to unbeaten Bideford next Tuesday.
He added: “We’re a good side and we’re not far off being really good.
“We’ve set ourselves up nicely with a clean sheet and scoring three goals. Up until last week, we had one of the best defensive records in the league. We’ll bounce into Saturday and as long as we cut out those individual mistakes, we’ll be fine.”
