SKIPPER Bobby Lyons led from the front as Chippenham ended a five-match losing run in National Three South West with victory at Allington Field.
Back row Lyons opened the scoring just five minutes in, scrum-half Andy Williamson booting the conversion.
Five minute later, the lead was extended as interplay between forwards and backs allowed Jon Squires to touch down, Williamoson with the extras.
Midway through the first period, Lyons added his second after a close-range scrum was pushed over the line.
Avonmouth responded with an unconverted score before the interval and a converted try 15 minutes into the second half, followed by a penalty, got them right back in the game.
Lyons calmed home nerves with 15 minutes remaining, completing his hat-trick after fine work by the front five to also secure a bonus point.
Avonmouth hit back with try late on but despite further pressure, the home side held out.
