WOOTTON Bassett tumbled out of the Wiltshire Senior Cup at the hands of Bemerton Heath Harlequins after an extra-time strike delivered the knockout blow.

The second-round exit was secured when 10-man Bemerton scored in the 115th minute to make it 3-2 at the Corinium.

Levi Cox initially put Bassett a goal up in the fourth minute, but the visitors were 2-1 in front by the break.

However, a handball on the line in second-half stoppage time saw a Bemerton player dismissed and Sam Collier stepped up to convert his third penalty for Bassett since joining from Cirencester at the end of October.

Despite being a man down for all of extra-time, the Wessex League outfit somehow managed to secure a late winner and set up a third-round clash with Western League First Division leaders Bradford.

There was also an agonising knockout exit for Malmesbury, who were edged out 5-4 by North Leigh United in the Hellenic League Supplementary Challenge Cup.

In the Hellenic Premier, Shrivenham staged a valiant fightback but could not dig out a draw against league leaders Ardley.

Dave Turner's men were beaten 3-2 in Oxfordshire and were therefore unable to jump above Bassett into 16th in the table.

Shrivvy were 2-0 down inside a quarter of an hour after Stevie Jones and Troy Bryan converted, before Steve Robertson pulled one back.

Callum Convey relieved Ardley nerves with a penalty to make it 3-1 after 75 minutes, before a Shrivvy spot kick gave the scoreline a tighter look.

Highworth suffered only their second defeat in 11 games as they were thumped 4-1 by Oxford City Nomads at Court Place Farm.

The game was all but over at half-time with the Worthians trailing 3-0.

Captain TJ Bohane pulled one back after the restart from the penalty spot, but Nomads stuck the knife in on the counter-attack to ensure an emphatic victory.

Highworth can at least console themselves with the thought that they have a new keeper coming into the club in the form of Purton stopper Gary Stevens, who played his final game for the Red House club on Saturday afternoon.

New College were without a competitive game in Division One West this weekend.
