TOCKENHAM teenager Jess Mendoza has qualified for the World Class Programme U23 British Championship Final at the London International Horse Show, Olympia on Friday.

Mendoza, who has had a superb season with wins at national and international level, joins the 24-strong line-up having finished with two horses in the top 14 on the league table.

The standings were determined by a combination’s best four results from any of the six qualifying competitions during 2013.

The 17-year-old, who qualified with Classic Highfly and Nuggets L’Amandour, both owned by her mother Sarah Mendoza, will compete aboard Classic Highfly at the prestigious event.

World Class performance manager Rob Hoekstra said: “It’s very exciting to have some of the top under 23s in the country competing in this class.

“I’m sure that some of the riders will become a big part of our future and I’m looking forward to working with them.”

There is a prize fund of £15,300 at the final and training vouchers to the value of £2,900 will be awarded to the top eight prize-winning riders. Only riders eligible for Great Britain can compete.

The development programme is funded by UK Sport and seeks to identify and develop talented athletes who have shown the potential to reach the world stage.
