TONY McCoy had to settle for third place as Andy Murray was crowned BBC Sports Personality of the Year for 2013 in Leeds on Sunday night.

Wimbledon champion Murray had been a long odds-on favourite for the title, with 18-times champion jockey McCoy, who lives in Baydon near Marlborough, the general second-favourite after bagging his 4,000th career success last month.

However, McCoy, who won the title in 2010, had to be content with minor honours on this occasion as Welsh and Lions rugby union star Leigh Halfpenny claimed the runner-up spot.

McCoy notched his 150th winner of the season with a double at Ffos Las today.

He won on It's A Doddle (7-2) for JP McManus and Jonjo O'Neill in the IWEC Electrical Novices' Hurdle, with victory only looking likely in the final 100 yards.

The 18-times champion jockey then partnered the Rebecca Curtis-trained newcomer Imagine The Chat (9-4 joint-favourite) in the Three Rivers "Newcomers" Standard Open National Hunt Flat Race, coming out on top by three-quarters of a length.
