SOUTHERN LEAGUE: Ciren lack cutting Edge

This Is Wiltshire: Jamie Edge has signed for Hereford Jamie Edge has signed for Hereford

CIRENCESTER will have to do without Jamie Edge for tomorrow’s trip to Evesham after the midfielder left the club to return to the professional game with Hereford.

Town lost top spot in Division One South & West to Merthyr Town on Monday night and go into tomorrow’s game in second, three points behind the leaders.

Edge has been a major part of the Centurions side but has now returned to the pro ranks having previously turned out for Cheltenham.

“We get great satisfaction at our club when we see a young lad make it in the game after being with us and as a club Cirencester have had a few that have,” manager Brian Hughes said.

“At our level we don’t do what we do to get rich, we do it because we love the game and being involved in it, and when something like this happens it gives you great satisfaction.

“It shows to other players what we as a club are about and hopefully that will help us attract other players in the future.

“Jamie was honest with us from day one, and we were honest with him. We were never going to stand in his way if something better came along.

“He has said that if it doesn’t work out with Hereford then he would not think twice about coming back to Cirencester – and that’s great to hear. But we hope for his sake that doesn’t happen.”
