HELLENIC LEAGUE: Defeat is not an option, Fisher tells Highworth
JOHN Fisher has insisted his Highworth side can’t afford to lose when they take on Hellenic Premier leaders Ardley tomorrow.
The Worthians sit sixth in the table, eight points behind their opponents, and in Fisher’s eyes a loss would mean the gap between the two teams would be close to insurmountable.
Highworth’s cup clash with Wantage was postponed on Tuesday night due to bad weather, with more expected over the weekend, but Fisher is keen to get a game in and knows just how important it could be.
“We want to get a game in that’s for sure, although the weather doesn’t look great,” he said. “It’s going to be a hard one, we know that, but really it’s one we can’t afford to lose.
“We are a bit behind them at the moment and if we lose that gap will begin to get too big, so we need to take at least a point really to hang in there. “We have a few boys missing but we’ll be looking to put in a good performance against a good side.”
Fisher will have to do without the unavailable Richie Saunders and suspended duo Lewis Page and Liam Williams tomorrow.
Elsewhere in the division, Shrivenham boss Dave Turner has vowed to go on the offensive when his side travel to high-flying Reading Town tomorrow.
The Barrington Park club saw their Floodlit Cup clash at home to Tuffley Rovers called off on Tuesday night with a waterlogged pitch, with their attention now switching to the side sitting fourth in the Hellenic Premier table.
“It was a shame the game got called off but we need to go into the next game with a good attitude and we’re looking forward to playing a game,” Turner said.
“We have two or three games over Christmas and we just want to get on with it because we have a full squad available.
“We go there hoping we get the rub of the green and s bit of luck too because you need that against a team, but we’re going there to have a go at them. It’s better doing that than inviting them on.
“Nobody gives us a chance so anything we can get from there would be a bonus.”
