CHIPPENHAM TOWN: Knighton poised to move on

BLUEBIRDS striker Tom Knighton looks set for a move to Bridgwater Town after being released by Chippenham Town this week.
The 25-year-old has made just three starts under Bluebirds boss Mark Collier and opted to cancel his contract at Chippenham this week as he looks to link up with former Hardenhuish Park assistant Richard Fey at Bridgwater.
Knighton joined Chippenham from Yate Town in November 2012 and has found the net eight times so far this season.
“It looks like Tom’s going to Bridgwater. He trains well and he’s a good lad to have around, but he’s not a glove that fits us, really,” said Collier.
“He’s a contracted player so he had to cancel his contract with us and then it became a financial issue – Tom and the club have agreed on that front.
“It’s just a football issue with him and nothing else. He’s not what we want from a front player, but we wish him well.
“We have to improve the squad and juggle the books as well. We can’t just bring people in without sometimes moving other people out.
“We’ve moved Tom on and we’re trying to mould our own team. We’ve inherited a squad of players and we’ll continue to make sure that we bring the right ones in to improve as a side.”
Collier is also hoping to snap up former Swindon Supermarine goalkeeper Kent Kauppinen, 22, as back-up for Ben John.
The Chippenham manager said: “The reason we’re speaking to Kent is that Ben John’s girlfriend is about to have a baby so we’re just looking for some cover just in case that happens in the next few weeks and we’re left without a goalkeeper.
“Kent’s a free agent and he’ll come to training tonight now that we’ve got a bit of space to organise the signing.”
