GARETH Davies is hoping that the Hellenic League will look favourably upon Malmesbury’s plight as he keeps his fingers crossed that a fixture pile-up can still be avoided.

Vics have played just 14 games out of 28 in Division One West this season and have managed only three since the start of September, none of which have been at home on a Flying Monk ground that was ravaged by flooding over the festive period.

With no fixture scheduled tomorrow, lowly Malmesbury are poised to fall further behind their league rivals in the games played column, and Davies has called on the Hellenic League to tweak the fixture list in order to save his team additional problems.

“We’re so far behind everyone else who have played 18, 19 or 20 games,” said Davies.

“Myself and Ady (Roper, assistant) were talking the other day and we’re hoping that the league will hopefully sort us some midweek games soon.

“Otherwise we’re going to be playing Saturday, Tuesday, Thursday and given the predicament we’re in we want to give ourselves a fighting chance.

“Lads play Sundays as well so there could be availability issues and they might pick up knocks and bumps there.

“If lads are out on their feet then that’s not going to help the cause, so hopefully they can sort us out with a couple of midweekers now, because I don’t want to be playing four or five times a week for the rest of the season.”

It has been a gruelling season for Davies and his team with disappointing results, flooding and now a potential fixture pile-up conspiring against them.

However, the boss is remaining upbeat, in spite of any strife he might get from his partner over football at home.

“I’m trying to take the positives out of it, I really am,” said Davies.

“It’s a learning curve not just for a young squad of players but for us as a coaching team.

“If it’s not one thing this season, it’s another. The missus absolutely despises me on a Friday night and it’s even worse on a Saturday. I think she’s looking forward to the summer to be honest.”

Elsewhere tomorrow, New College will be hoping that their home clash with Clanfield beats the weather while Purton travel to North Leigh United.
