HELLENIC LEAGUE: College boss predicts further washouts

NEW College boss Rob Hopkins is already bracing himself for another postponement after this weekend’s clash with Clanfield was called off.
Like the rest of the local non-league sides, College were again unable to kick a ball in anger this week due to the wet weather.
Hopkins saw his side’s pitch on Friday and knew it would not be playable and is convinced next weekend’s clash at Fairford should also be in doubt due to the levels of saturation in the area.
“When I went up there on Friday it was very wet and was probably the worst I have ever seen it,” he said.
“The groundsman was there doing his best to try and fork it and make it playable but I would say 75 per cent of it had standing water on it so I always knew we were likely to be off.
“I know it’s only the weekend and we aren’t expecting more rain for a bit but, with more rain forecast for the end of the week, I would be surprised if we played next week either.
“That would be a pain because our under 18s haven’t played since December and we’ve only played one Hellenic game in seven weeks, so there we go.
“Even our training pitches are saturated so that’s getting frustrating too.”
