MALMESBURY boss Gareth Davies is confident of coming away from Hook Norton with points this weekend, especially if his players can reproduce their display from Tuesday night’s loss at Clanfield.

The men from the Flying Monk came away from fourth-placed Clanfield on the wrong end of a 1-0 defeat, but Davies was proud of the way his side performed having gone down to 10 men for the final 20 minutes.

Hook sit two places above Malmesbury, although the Wiltshire side have four games in hand, and Davies is hopeful a repeat performance will bring greater rewards tomorrow afternoon.

“We were down to 10 men for 20 minutes and they scored with about a minute to go, but to be fair they are fourth in the league and we were fourth in the league and considering that we played really well,” he said.

“We didn’t deserve to lose and I really thought we were on for a point. I’m sure the people at Clanfield will say the same.

“That’s the way football is sometimes and you don’t always get what you deserve but there are plenty from positives to take into the next game.

“We’re playing Hook Norton who are one of the teams in and around where we are and those are the teams you have to try and take points off, we know that.

“They’re two places above us and we need to target this one to get something out of it. We will go there and hopefully we will get something.

“If we play like we did on Tuesday night then we go there without fear and confident of getting something.”

Chris Jackson is back from a lay-off over the Christmas period while Dan Thompson and Luke Cordery are available again.
