SWINDON Supermarine manager Dave Webb has challenged his players hold on to their place in the Southern League Division One South and West play-off places after breaking into the top five.

The 4-1 success over Taunton Town on Wednesday moved the Webbs Wood Stadium outfit into fifth place and the Marine chief is determined that his team stay there.

And with a tricky trip to the Forest of Dean tomorrow to face Cinderford Town, Webb knows that his players will have to be at the top of their game.

“I said to the players on Wednesday night that the target now we have got into the top five is to stay there,” the Marine boss said.

“It looks like Merthyr (Town) and Cirencester (Town) are vying for the title and are pretty much guaranteed at least a place in the play-offs.

“The rest are chasing to be in the top five, there are four teams on 50 points - one of them is us - and just three off third place.

“But things can change very quickly so if we do have a blip it is important that we bounce back quickly.”

Despite Supermarine’s climb up the table, Webb is keen to strengthen his squad for the final two months of the campaign.

With midfielder Sam Morris expected to out until at least mid-April with ankle ligament damage and Josh Morse (hamstring) rated at 50-50 for the trip to the Causeway tomorrow, right-back Kyle Lapham is nearing full fitness after missing the last five weeks with a calf problem.

“We have got 14 games left of the season and it would be nice to freshen up the squad,” Webb said.

“I’m happy offensively, we’ve scored eight in our last two matches, but I think with Sam being out I may look at a central midfielder.

“At the minute we can’t do any work on Sam’s ankle, it is black and blue and very, very sore.”

Webb is expecting a physical encounter in the Forest of Dean, although Cinderford have been unable to play on their Causeway pitch since the end of December.

“Their pitch isn’t as bad as people make out,” Webb said. “It just takes a fair bit of time to dry out after the wet weather.

“We know what Cinderford bring. They are big physical side and it will be a tough game.

“They have just lost their striker Lewis Sommers to Mangotsfield (United). He always caused us problems but I don’t know whether that will benefit us or not.”
