ABBEY Meads’ regional team got back to winning ways with a comfortable 50-37 victory over a spirited Devizes side.

The former Regional Division Three leaders were knocked off their perch last weekend following a disappointing loss away at Bournemouth, but put things right in style.

Devizes started the contest quickly but Abbey were soon 11-8 up after the end of the first quarter - a lead they extended to six goals by the half-time break.

Strong defending from Helen McGrath and Susie McDonald kept Devizes at bay and after three quarters Abbey were up 36-29.

The final period saw fantastic shooting from Abbey player of the match Chrissie Lewis which helped her side to a well-deserved 50-37 victory.

There was also success for the Abbey Meads C team who beat Nationwide C 33-25.

Abbey took a while to get into the contest as they trailed 9-7 at the first break but some accurate shooting from the goal shooter and the goal attack, as well as some impressive interceptions, ensured Abbey ended the opening period in the lead.

A couple of team changes at the break ensured things were more comfortable during the third quarter and, although Nationwide came back into the contest in the final session, Abbey ran out deserved winners.
