TROWBRIDGE & DISTRICT LEAGUE KNOCKOUT CUP: Lacock on course to retain trophy
SECOND Division champions Lacock FC remain on course to retain the Chantry Digital Ltd-sponsored Knockout Cup after ending Worton & Cheverell’s hopes of reaching a second successive final.
Lacock, who beat Worton 4-1 to lift the cup last term, defeated Paul Sperring’s side 5-0 to set up a meeting with Westbury United Reserves, who they are also set to meet in the A&B Cup final as they continue their assault on all four competitions this term.
After a goalless first 45 minutes, Simon Gray who won the player of the final award last term, proved to be the undoing of Worton yet again.
Gray was on hand to put Lacock one up on 59 minutes. Jake Marshall made things a little more comfortable for Lacock when he headed home to double the holders' advantage in the 66th minute.
With Worton now chasing the game it left huge gaps at the back and on 75 minutes Andy Wilkins made it 3-0 before two minutes later Gray got on the end of a superb Lacock team move to score his second and the villagers' fourth which finally put the tie out of the reach of Worton.
To add the icing to the Lacock cake, Liam Shipman rifled home a sublime strike from 40 yards that capped a fine all-round team performance from Joe Martin and Martin Bradfield’s side who look as if they are going to take some stopping as they go in search of a quadruple of trophies.
