TOMMY Bridewell says that he won’t be throwing caution to the wind as he challenges for the British Superbikes Championship (BSB) title this season.
The Etchilhampton star hits the asphalt this weekend as the new campaign gets under way at Brands Hatch, with the 25-year-old aiming to stick with Milwaukee Yamaha after featuring for three different teams last season.
Bridewell, who secured an impressive three podium finishes from his first four races with Milwaukee last year, believes that he has what it takes to claim the BSB crown but insists that he’ll resist the temptation to come out all guns blazing during the opening round.
“I’m looking forward to the season getting started. Testing has been going quite well and although we missed Snetterton, which I was pretty disappointed about, I was really fast over in Spain, but the British tracks are a whole different ball game,” said the Wiltshire ace.
“I’m with a good team and the plan – touch wood – is to stick with them.
“I definitely think that the team is good enough to win the championship and so am I but it’s not going to be easy at all.
“As the saying goes, you can’t win the championship in the first round but you can definitely lose it.
“There’s no point in me going out there, pushing too hard, ending up getting injured and missing X amount of rounds.
“I still want to try and get a couple of race wins but I want to stay calm and pick up points where I can.”
