HELLENIC LEAGUE: Fisher dubs Highworth "underdogs" for cup semi-final clash

HIGHWORTH boss John Fisher thinks that his side are definitely underdogs going into their Challenge Cup semi-final at Ardley United this weekend.
Highworth’s form is patchy at best, they have not won in five, a run stretching back to the end of March. Ardley on the other hand have won their last eight in a row and are in pole position for a league and cup double.
It is a position that Highworth themselves had the prospect of a couple of months ago but poor form, unabated by ongoing selection issues for Fisher, has seen the Worthians slump to a position where they could finish down in eighth.
Fisher knows it could have been very different for his team and this Saturday’s game represents a win or bust situation for his side.
“The way we’ve been playing at the moment we’re definitely underdogs, definitely,” said Fisher.
“They are a decent side no two ways about it, we’ve got to play to the best our ability, if we play like we did the last two games, then it won’t happen. It’s up to the boys, you can do all the preparation in the world but as soon they walk out of the door it’s up to them.
“It’s our last chance for anything out of the season, a couple of months ago we were top four and could have been pushing, now we’ll be lucky to finish top seven.
“From a few months ago it’s nowhere near what it could have been, it’s disappointing but that’s football, if we don’t win everyone will forget the cup and our season will be seventh in the league, nobody sees if you made it to the cup semi-final, it’s win or nothing.”
In the side’s two previous meeting this season Highworth and Ardley have been inseperable, drawing 1-1 back in March and sharing eight goals at The Elms last year. Fisher is expecting a tough afternoon but he does believe in his team.
“Anything can happen in a semi-final we drew with them a couple of times, and we know we can beat them.”
