HELLENIC LEAGUE: Revenge is motivation for Shrivenham
SHIRVENHAM will be using revenge as motivation for their Hellenic Premier season ending game with Binfield tomorrow.
Earlier in the month tomorrow’s visitors scored very late to steal three points away from Collier and his side. It was a rare blip in their recent run of form which has seen Shrivvy pick up five wins in their last eight, culminating in their dramatic win over local rivals Highworth last Monday.
It has been quite some turnaround for Shrivenham and Collier after he took over in such trying circumstances following the sudden and sad death of Dave Turner.
It took almost two months for Collier to get his first win but since then his team’s form has improved to the point where he does not want the season to end.
“The lads have stuck together and we’ve been a good side, the league table lies in that we’ve been picking up points and have got a good bunch of lads who should be higher up,” said Collier. “We feel we owe Binfield after the game a couple of weeks ago, that hurt us, we deserved at least a point, we will be going for revenge.
“We know how they play, this will be my fourth game against them, I’ve had two for Bassett and one for Shrivenham.
“We almost don’t want the season to end now, we‘re playing well and picking up points regularly.
“We’re all happy, considering what’s gone on for the lads, Monday was a good day for club, winning the local derby was big. After what had happened, it was a tough start, we’ve not been battered by anybody, it took a while to get going but I’ve only signed one new player who’s been playing regularly, we’ve just clicked recently.
“We go into every game wanting to win, we’ve won five of last eight, and we want to finish as high as possibly can.”
