SWINDON have added overseas all-rounder Krishna Gopthna to their side for the weekend trip to Chipping Sodbury.

Having failed to retain Australian star Ardil Domingo, who made a major contribution to Swindon’s promotion push in the WEPL Wiltshire Division last year, the County Ground side have drafted in the leg-spinning right-hander as he visits his brother, conveniently a Swindon member, over the summer.

Captain Liam Tucker has only seen Gopthna net once following his arrival in the country in midweek, but he’s chosen to throw him in the deep end by selecting him for his team’s Glos/Wilts outing tomorrow.

“He has arrived in the country. He’s only the brother of one of our players anyway,” said Tucker.

“He’s arrived for a holiday to see his brother, we’ve asked whether he wants to play cricket while he’s over here, we’ve never had an overseas registered so it would be daft not to take that opportunity up.

“He netted on Wednesday night and he’s selected to play on Saturday.

“We haven’t really seen him play yet so we’re not 100 per cent sure but he goes into the team this weekend.

“It’s more competition for places and more bowling and batting options for us, it’s definitely good for the club as a whole.”
