GOATACRE bounced back from their opening day Premier Two defeat at the hands of county rivals Potterne by defeating Ilminster by six runs in one of the few surviving fixtures on a weather-hit day in the Wadworth 6X West of England Premier League on Saturday.

With the conditions reducing the match to just 25 overs per side, Goatacre opener Jack Haines blitzed 81 from just 36 balls, including six fours and eight sixes to help his side towards a total of 188 all out.

Number three Ed Wilkins also helped himself to a half-century from 45 balls as the villagers were out four balls shy of their full compliment.

The Ilminster reply was underpinned by a superb knock of 120 from Ilminster opener Louis Kraucamp, which included ten fours and nine sixes in its 81 balls.

Wickets fell steadily throughout though, Matthew House taking 3-33 and the visitors came up just short on 182-7 as their overs ran out.

The weather foiled Westbury in their Glos/Wilts Division clash against Gloucester City Winget after the Wiltshire men had bowled out their opponents cheaply in another match reduced to 26 overs a side.

Winget recorded 98-9 from their allotted balls, opener Jack Cowles toping the scoring charts with 21 as Westbury skipper Alex Senneck took 3-20 and Andy Carroll 2-9.

The Wiltshire Division was largely washed out, Great Bedwyn reaching 19-1 after four overs of their clash at Winsley before the match was abandoned.
