PRE-season title favourites Lechlade and Westbury go head to head at the Manor Ground on Saturday in a top of the table clash.

The two clubs currently lead the way in the WEPL Glos/Wilts Division, with Lechlade just in front by a single point.

While Lechlade battled in vein last Saturday to get their game on against newly-promoted Tewkesbury, Westbury closed the opening-day gap by gaining four bonus points in their abandoned game with Gloucester City Winget.

Lechlade overseas Brad Dial will hope the weather will be better and that he will be able to make is league debut this weekend.

Dial arrived in the country last Wednesday and has experienced a typical early summer since his arrival.

South African Dial said: “I was warned about the weather by my father who was born in the North East of England so the rain wasn’t too much of a surprise but the coldness was.

“I’ve managed to get a little net time and I feel I am in reasonably good shape and very much looking forward to getting started. Joe (Breet, Lechlade captain) has explained to me that Westbury will be one of title challengers this season and it would be nice to make a good contribution and get off to a winning start this weekend.”

The riverside club will field a near full strength team for the clash, with only Luke Sellers being unavailable. He will be replaced by Will Bowers. Skipper Breet said:“Last Saturday was very frustrating. The boys worked very hard for three hours in trying to get a game on without reward. This week’s game is very important even at this early stage and the lads are very much up for it after a two-week break.

“The spirit and enthusiasm at this week’s training was fantastic so we will go into this game in a very positive frame of mind.”
