WOOTTON Bassett Town are hoping to have a new manager in place by the end of the first week of June.

The Corinium Stadium-based club will begin their search in earnest to find a replacement for Jeff Roberts, who resigned last week, over the next 10 days.

Bassett chairman Andy Walduck says that several candidates have already shown an interest in taking over the reins at the club, who are soon hoping to back working on their new Ballards Ash home.

“It is important that we find the right team to take us forward,” Walduck said. “We will really start to look at it over the next week-and-a-half.

“I’ve had quite a bit of interest already and it all about finding the right person.

“Hopefully, I would like to have offered the position by the last week of May or the first June.”

Roberts stepped down from the Hellenic Premier Division club last week claiming that the club would give him any money to pay players next term.

The former Bassett manager said when stepping down: “This was a bit of pilot year for them to pay a bit of money, and our discipline wasn’t so good, which cost them more.

“So next season they’ve decided to pay nothing at all.

“So I’ve mutually agreed with the committee to step down.”
