THE Swindon Flames had a torrid time on their most recent visit to Farnborough, as all three of their teams lost.

The club suffered from a number of absences, which affected all three teams involved, as the Juniors were beaten 8-4 by Banbury Bulldogs, Chippy Trixters A won 19-1 against the Pee Wees and the Youths were seen off 9-3, also by the Trixters.

Flames Juniors were the first to play and, although they were able to welcome back netminder Jake Silvester and bring in debutant Haydn Lee, they were short of a number of experienced players.

Flames fell behind after only 20 seconds but within a minute had levelled through Lee before Will Harding gave his side the lead.

The Bulldogs equalised after four minutes, however, and 90 seconds later went in front.

Lee scored his second with two and a half minutes of the first period remaining but the game hinged on an incident with 28 seconds of the period left.

Youth player Harry Llewellyn was grabbed and punched by a Banbury player and captain Will Harding went to support his teammate.

Both teams lost a player for the remainder of the game but, with Swindon fielding a largely inexperienced side, Banbury took full advantage and after six minutes of the second period they went into the lead.

The Flames gave as good as they got but the Bulldogs scored four more goals before Leigh Starsmeare’s late consolation.

The Pee Wee team were again short-benched and again faced league leaders Trixtsters, who took full control early on and scored regularly throughout the first period to lead 12-0 at the break.

The Flames’ youngsters were able to offer stiffer resistance during the second period and the flow of goals reduced, while captain Joseph Llewellyn managed a response to take his own personal total to 29 for the season.

In the Youth fixture against the Chippy Trixsters, the Chippy team took full advantage of the absentees in the Flames side.

Despite being short themselves, they came out strongly and went two up inside the first minute, scoring again halfway through the first period and finished the half with a flourish as they ran up a 6-0 lead.

The Flames finally got on the scoresheet through Reed Sayers but Chippy again registered to maintain the gap. Charlie Browning and Reed Sayers scored but two late goals from Chippy rounded off the victory.

The Swindon Flames are always looking to recruit new members at all levels and are especially seeking new members for the newly formed Pee Wee (under 12) team.

Training is held weekly at the Link Centre on Saturdays from 10-11am under the guidance of GB ice hockey coach Mark Beggs.
