PDC player Chris Aubrey staged a remarkable comeback to win a charity tournament held to raise money for Prospect Hospice on Monday.

The Modus sponsored player was taking part in the event at the Even Swindon club in Percy Street and beat his fellow PDC player Mark Cox 5-4 despite going 4-0 down in the early stages of the game.

Aubrey had previously beaten Richard North in the semi-final while Cox beat his own son Craig to reach the last two, where Aubrey claimed the crown on a day where more than £400 was raised for charity.

The youngster was pleased with the victory but was equally pleased to have able to help raise vital funds for charity in the process.

“It was a really good day and it was great to see so many people turn out for charity,” he said.

“Of course it was good to win it and I played pretty well too which was good for me, but the main thing was to raise some money for a good cause.

Any time where you can raise money for charity and have fun at the same time has to be a good thing.”

The event was attended by darting legend Bob Anderson, with organiser Jordan L’Estrange pleased with how the tournament went in only it’s second year.

“We decided to raise money for the prospect hospice as Julie the stewardess at the club sadly lost her husband to cancer and he was cared for by Prospect before he passed,” he said.

“Julie couldn’t praise Prospect hospice enough and so we decided to start a fundraising darts event last January.

“As last year’s event was extremely successful, raising over £900, I decided to organise another. The day went brilliantly, without any snags, and to see the generosity of everyone that turned up and the effort everyone made in getting raffle prizes together was very overwhelming.

“There was an excellent standard of darts thrown which kept everybody entertained and also raised over £400 in the process.”
