Robins' boss eyes completed meet to give Robins momentum
SWINDON boss Alun Rossiter knows his side need to beat the weather this evening if they are to start building momentum both on and off the track.
The Robins are due to meet Elite League new boys Leicester at the Abbey Stadium after the original staging on May 22 was postponed due to the wet weather, which also claimed two other home meetings before a wheel has turned this season.
A further Blunsdon meeting, against Birmingham, was abandoned before a result could stand while two more have brought results but have not gone the distance, creating a real lack of continuity for the Robins.
Rossiter admitted the dearth of full meetings is far from ideal both on the track and from a financial point of view, and is hoping for a change of fortune this evening as he bids to help change the club’s fortunes.
“We need a full meeting to get some confidence back although we did start off nice and steady on Monday night,” he said.
“We made some silly mistakes and didn’t gate off the last little bit but we need a full meeting, the riders need a full meeting and getting 15 heats in is important.
“It doesn’t do us any favours at all having rain-offs all the time.
“It’s all manageable at the moment although it’s not ideal, but we just have to keep battling away and keep doing everything we can to try and get people to come and watch.
“With a bit of luck our fortunes might change and the league table is a little false because we’ve done the majority of our matches away.
“We’ve picked up some points on the road which isn’t too bad.
“A few more home meetings will help us get in a good run with some momentum and, once we do that, our luck will change.”
As was the case when the meeting was originally scheduled, Rossiter sees Robins assets Jason Doyle and Mads Korneliussen as his side’s biggest threat when Leicester come to town tonight.
“Mads and Jason are good riders who know Swindon well, they’re two Swindon riders,” he said.
“Doyley’s going really well and is on top of his game and Mads is banging in some scores too. We need to be wary of them but I’m confident we can take all the points.”
