Too early to count Bees among title favourites
ALUN Rossiter has insisted it’s still too early to be discussing tonight’s opponents Coventry as contenders for the Elite League title.
The Bees come to Wiltshire this evening complete with new signing Michael Jepsen Jensen, with the acquisition leading many to suggest the Bees are one of the favourites to win the league.
However, with work still be done to ensure they even make the play-offs, Rossiter believes those talking Gary Havelock’s side up are doing so a little prematurely.
“They are certainly stronger now they’ve signed Jepsen Jensen and we will have to be on our guard and can’t allow any mistakes,” he said.
“I think it’s too early to call them title favourites because there’s a long way to go. The play-offs are the goal for everybody and there are some very good teams in the mix.
“When Poole are on song they are very difficult to beat.”
Rossiter and his Robins still have play-off ambitions of their own, but the Swindon team boss knows his side will need to be at their best if they are to avenge their weather-affected home defeat to the Bees earlier in the year.
“We need to hit them hard like we normally do and keep that intensity up throughout the meeting which has sometimes been a bit of an issue for us,” he said.
“We can do it, I’m very confident we can, but we just need to be at our best.
“The last meeting wasn’t really a proper contest because of the weather and some riders act differently to others. They had their noses in front and wanted it off but that’s in the past and it’s done and dusted – history.
“We need to show we are good enough, Simon’s (Gustafsson) riding 10 times better than what he was and hopefully he can keep that up.
“We’ve won a few points away from home and if we can just get going at home then we can do well.”
