CHIPPENHAM Harriers scooped both male and female prizes at the Broad Town 5, the latest event in the Wiltshire Road Race League, sponsored by Newsquest.

Harrier Gary Dunstone was overall race winner in 28:28, putting him top of the individual league standings.

Cordula Hurcum was the first female over the line in a31:48, with Avon Valley Runners’ Fiona Price second and Dominique Oughton third. Harriers Caroline Blake picked up the female vet prize (34:29).

In the male super veteran category, for runners aged 50-59, Robins Mark Schols of Avon Valley Runners was first in 32:39, while Bill Silto won the 60+ male category in a time of 36 minutes.

  • CALNE Running Club’s Simon Nott claimed the DB Max Chippenham Longest Day 10K last week.

Nott led home the 250-strong field in 32 minutes and 50 seconds – 23 seconds quicker than 12 months ago, holding off athletes from Team Bath AC and Bristol and West AC to take the £100 prize.

Clubmate Denise Grech was fourth lady and 22nd overall in 40.23 – 25 seconds quicker than last year – taking the Vet prize and was first Wiltshire lady home.

  • CHIPPENHAM Harriers will host its annual 5K River Run and Fun Run next Wednesday (July 2).

Both runs start and finish in Monkton Park, near the Olympiad Leisure Centre and follow a largely traffic-free multi-terrain route along the banks of the River Avon.

The event is the target race for the Chippenham Harriers current nine-week beginners’ programme which started last month.

The Fun Run starts at 6.30pm with registration closing promptly at 6.15pm. The River Run starts at 7.30pm with registration closing at 7.15pm. See chippenham harriers.co.uk.
