ALUN Rossiter is hoping a switch of reserves will give his side a boost as they prepare to travel to Wolverhampton this evening.

The Robins boss has swapped bottom two Nathan Greaves and Steve Worrall around in his side, with Worrall now at six and Greaves at seven, as part of a fact-finding mission.

Rossiter has regularly pulled Greaves out of his final ride in favour of running Worrall in heat 14, which he now won’t have to do as the number six is already scheduled in the penultimate race, giving the Robins boss a chance to look for areas in which he can help his team improve.

“Nathan’s coming on really well and he has to keep on doing what he’s doing and keep on improving,” he said. “I’ve swapped him and Stevie (Worrall) around at six and seven and hopefully we can see if that makes a difference at any point.

“With Steve at seven I’ve had to swap Nathan out of heat 14 to put Steve in, which is tough on Nathan, but sometimes I’ve had to make a tough decision there.”

The Robins suffered a collapse on their last visit to Monmore Green as they let a substantial early lead slip before going down to a defeat, which Rossiter is hopeful of avoiding tonight.

“We seem to keep doing it a lot and I really don’t know why, but we’re aware what has happened before and the riders are professional enough to deal with it,” he said.

“Troy (Batchelor) wasn’t at his best last time we went there and I’m sure he will do better this time.”

Rossiter appointed world champion Tai Woffinden as his Great Britain skipper earlier in the year and has been impressed with how the Wolves number one has gone about his business this season.

“I always knew Tai would get it right because he has the type of temperament where he can step it up when he really needs to,” he said.

“Tai’s boxing clever this season I think and I don’t believe he’s putting everything on the line in every race after the injuries he’s had in recent years.

“I’m not saying he’s not trying, he really is, but he’s working on things well and learning when to save himself which is what all champions do.”
