THERE are just a few weeks left for you to nominate a young athlete who you believe deserves a grant from our Sports Stars of Tomorrow initiative, organised with Devizes-based charity Bag4Sport Foundation.

The charity will hand out six grants to youngsters who need financial help to reach the top in their chosen sport.

Three winners will receive £500 each, with £100 each going to three runners-up – but your entry must arrive by July 31 to be in with a chance of winning.

One of last year’s winners, Harriet Eyles from Ramsbury, was ranked in the top ten in the UK for U12s earlier this year.

An injured elbow means she is learning how to use her left hand when playing.

Mum Ros said: “Harriet's problem has recently been diagnosed as a piece of cartilage coming adrift.

“This has meant she has been unable to train properly or compete at all. Not to be set back by this news, she has decided that until her right arm has healed, which will take six to 12 months, she will continue her training and re-learn how to play using her left hand.

“This will make sure her fitness keeps high and that she has new challenges to inspire her.’’

Undeterred by her injury, Harriet is now ranked ninth in the UK at javelin at U13 level, winning the Wiltshire title and will represent the South West in August.

Mrs Eyles added: “The funds from Bag4Sport provided last year enabled her to upgrade her rackets, have several more individual lessons to work on specific areas of her game and to travel to tournaments slightly further afield to allow her to compete against different girls outside the region.’’

To be in the running to receive a grant of up to £500 get your parent, teacher or coach to fill in the form in this week's Gazette & Herald or go to the Bag4Sport Foundation website bag4sport.co.uk or email foundation@bag4sport.co.uk.

All entries must be received by July 31. We will need to know why nominated person needs help and their achievements to date.

Any youngster up to the age of 16 can be nominated but they must not already be receiving a Lottery grant.

We will pick one winner and one runner-up from each of the three edition areas of the Gazette & Herald – Devizes, Marlborough and North Wiltshire.
