RICHARD Hannon's Qipco 2000 Guineas winner Night Of Thunder will revert back to a mile after failing to see out 10 furlongs in the Coral-Eclipse on Saturday.
Connections stepped the Dubawi colt up in distance after he was put in his place by the Irish Guineas winner Kingman at Ascot in the St James's Palace Stakes.
Held up off the pace by Richard Hughes he was never in contention at any stage and trailed home in eighth of the nine runners.
He is now likely to be given a break having had four runs already this season with the Prix du Moulin at Longchamp in September a likely target.
Everleigh and Herridge handler Hannon told the Daily Mail: "Before the race I was confident he would get the trip and we rode him to stay.
"But he didn't really finish his race off. I think from now on it is back to a mile."
