SWINDON captain Liam Tucker has conceded that the Glos/Wilts Division promotion race looks to be between Lechlade and Rockhampton, but he’s not giving up on the campaign just yet.

Swindon currently sit third in the league table, 31 points behind leaders Lechlade and 23 off Rockhampton in second, with eight games of the term remaining.

While the challenge is daunting, and Tucker concedes the top two will take something special to overhaul, he’s still in a competitive frame of mind going into the weekend clash with Tewkesbury.

“If you’d have asked me before the start of the season I’d have probably said there’d be one runaway club, so I’m not surprised there are two that are a little bit ahead of everyone else,” he said.

“I think most clubs are realising that there is a group of two or three clubs after the top two and Chipping Sodbury are a little cast adrift.

“But things can change in a couple of weeks, it only takes one or two strange results, especially with the weather.

“If you suddenly get lucky with the rain, get a win and one or two other sides get a rain-off around you it soon changes things around you.

“There are probably two sides competing to get promoted, to be honest.

After a comfortable victory over Chipping Sodbury last time out, Tucker is expecting a tougher examination of his players by Tewkesbury.

“I’m kind of aware that Chipping Sodbury have not done too well this year, so I’m expecting a bit sterner a test this weekend,” he said.

“I’d expect Tewkesbury to be pretty decent. We went to their place earlier in the year and had a very interesting game.

“Both sides were 80-8, they got up to 155 and we were 80-8 and chased them down.

“It was a bit of a strange game but they proved they batted all the way down and that they have good bowlers.

“We’ll look to repeat what we did last week - we were pretty happy with last week, and we’ll look to replicate that.”

Dan Baker is replaced by Andy Staff behind the stumps in Swindon’s only change.
