Pete aware he needs to impress on international duty for Denmark

PETER Kildemand knows he needs to put in a big performance in the opening round of the World Cup next week if he’s to earn a spot in the Danish side for the later stages of the competition.

National team boss Anders Secher has called the Robins’ number one up – alongside Hans Andersen, Mads Korneliussen and Bjarne Pedersen – to compete at Vastervik in Event Two next Tuesday.

The likes of Nicki Pedersen, Niels-Kristian Iversen and Kenneth Bjerre have all been rested for the Swedish event.

However the Grand Prix trio are likely to return for the race-off and final, as long as the Danes get there.

It means Kildemand will need to perform in order to see off the challenge of Michael Jepsen Jensen, who has also been rested for the opening round.

“I’m really happy and I just have to show something in the first round now so maybe I can get in for the final,” he said.

“I think they are just giving a few guys a break, I’m not sure, but it’s good for me that I’ve got into the team.

“It’s up to the coach to be honest but it’s good for me to be there.

“I just have to do what I can and then see what happens. If I score well then maybe I can stay in the team but if I don’t then maybe I will be replaced.”

Kildemand believes the Danes have a chance to make a big impression at the World Cup but, with the final held in Bydgoszcz, he admitted Poland will once again be the team to beat.

“It’s hard because the Poles are very strong and if all of them click on the same day they will win,” he said.

“I think we can win if we all go well and have some good team spirit.”

Kildemand’s Denmark take on hosts Sweden, Czech Republic and Latvia at Vastervik, with the winners making the final and the teams in second and third going into the race-off.

The Dane lands at Manchester airport at 5pm today ahead of the Robins’ visit to Belle Vue.
