PURTON captain Elliot Hill is hoping that his side can maintain the pressure on the Wiltshire Division leaders in the final six weeks of the campaign.

Having won promotion to the West of England Premier League last term, Purton currently sit in third place, just 14 points behind leaders Burbage and Easton Royal, ahead of tomorrow’s trip to Calne.

With Hill’s men still to face the table-toppers on the penultimate weekend of the campaign as well as a trip to second placed Marshfield on August 9, there is still a chance that Purton could claim their second successive promotion.

“If we could win our remaining six matches of the season then I’d be very surprised if we didn’t finish top of the pile,” Hill said.

“But Burbage are the front-runners and are looking good, but if we can go there still in with a shout then I’ll be very pleased.”

Purton head to Calne looking to complete a league-double over their hosts after beating them by eight wickets earlier in the campaign.

Since that victory over tomorrow’s opponents, Hill’s side have won four of their previous seven outings including their last two games.

Last weekend a devastating spell from Akki Gomel, when the Indian under 19 international took four wickets in four balls, completed a 128-run success over Devizes after the skipper’s 79-ball 106 set the platform.

Yet despite Purton’s recent good form, Hill believes that there is still room for improvement.

“To be honest we haven’t been firing massively,” Hill said. “Last week it was Akki with the ball and myself with the bat.

“If we get everyone firing then suddenly we can become a very, very good side.”

Hill will be hoping that they will start tomorrow as they look to make it three wins in a row against a Calne who have only won once at their Beversbrook Road ground.

“We put in a good performance against them earlier in the season and won pretty comfortably,” Hill said.

“They will want to try and right those wrongs on Saturday and it will be up to us to stop them.

“We have taken a bit of time, longer than I expected, to get used to this division and I just want to keep building on what we have already done.”

Hill has been forced to make one change to the side that defeated Devizes with teenage opening batsman Elijah Samuel away at the Bunbury Festival with Tom Fullalove coming back into the side.
