In the Oxford Mail league Highworth Town Juniors U16 team went down after a spirited show away to Didcot Casuals.

Starting with eight players Highworth went ahead through a well taken goal by Amelia Glover. An injury to reduce their numbers further and two late Didcot goals made the task even tougher by the break.

It proved to big an ask and despite plenty of effort the final score was 8-1. Coach Steve Skittrall said: "In my 10 years as a coach I've not seen such a gutsy performance as my girls put in this morning."

In the Wiltshire Girls' League, Spitfires' U16s opened their season with a 7-1 win over Prunell Sports. Spitfires opened the scoring through a break down the right and Jade Staines flicked a through ball to Daniella Granato who rounded the Purnell keeper to make it 1-0. Daniella Granato made it 2-0 when she latched onto Charley Reynolds’s ball and fired home into the corner of the net.

Further goals from Poppy Cottrill, Reynolds, Emma Howe and two from Chiarna Deller completed the scoring, with the visitors getting a lone consolation.

Meanwhile Spitfires' under 15s kicked off their season in the Berkshire County Girls League with a 3-1 win over Wokingham and Emmbrook. Lucy Goodright assisted for her sister Natalie to fire home the opener, with Ellie Lankester adding a second from long range.

Wokingham managed to bag a goal after Spits failed to mark up for a throw in on the edge of their box, resulting in a shot going in from the edge of the area.

Spits grabbed a third as Nat Goodright was able to fire home from close range late on.

In the Oxford Girls' League Spitfires' U13s racked up a 10-0 win at Carterton. Chloe Neate, Aimee Prinzi (three), Emily Purvis (three), Morgan Ly Culley (two) and Genevieve Bayliss (one) all getting on the scoresheet.

Back in the Wiltshire League Spitfires U14s recorded a 2-0 win at Westbury Youth with goals from Emily Bowdidge and Freya Sullivan, and the U12s lost out 3-2 at Bath City thanks to a disputed penalty.
