Swindon Town dropped their first points of the season when they visited Southampton Saints and were held to a thrilling 3-3 draw in the FA Women’s Premier League Division One South West.

After a disappointing first half Town were trailing following two strikes from home forward Krystal Whyte at the break.

A better second half was soon rewarded when Meg Attenborough and then Beth Thompson put Swindon level.

Former Town striker Seridan Palk put the home side ahead but deep into added time Sarah Uzzell secured a point for Town.

Meanwhile, Swindon Spitfires maintained their winning start to the season with a 2-0 victory at Bristol Ladies Union.

The hosts had a couple of early half-chances but they were comfortably dealt with by Spitfires’ keeper Julia Caton.

At the other end some good build up from Spitfires saw Morgan Whittaker through on goal in the 11th minute but keeper Katherine Howells was quick to come out and smother the danger.

Spitfires eventually took the lead in the 41st minute when Emma Skinner powered home a free-kick awarded for handball, and Howells denied Higgins again from a Beth Turner cross to keep the lead to a single goal at half time.

Spitfires kept up the pressure on BLU from the start of the second half with Coombs breaking free of the defence in the 50th minute only to shoot straight at Howells.

The home side were restricted to the odd counter attack but were unable to trouble Caton, either through being unable to penetrate Spitfires’ defence or wayward shooting.

Skinner doubled Spitfires’ advantage on 57 minutes with another well-struck free-kick that deceived Howells with the flight of the ball.

Eight minutes later Skinner missed a glorious chance for a hat-trick as Spitfires kept the home side under the cosh. Some great deliveries from Berry and Turner kept the home defence busy, and shots from Katie Wadey and Skinner had to be scrambled clear.

At the other end Laura Stallard and Turner combined well to snuff out another BLU counter in the 76th minute, and Caton had an easy save to make three minutes later.

Spitfires were never in any serious danger of conceding, and despite some further pressure on the BLU defence couldn’t add to the scoreline to round off another excellent performance against one of the traditionally stronger teams in the division.
