SWINDON are hoping to keep their feet on the ground after they maintained their 100 per cent start with a 29-14 win away to Leighton Buzzard.

After seeing off Grove at Greenbridge Road on the opening day of the season Swindon travelled to new-comers Leighton Buzzard, who beat Reading 26-13 in their first game.

Three tries from winger Ollie Newton helped Swindon secure their second bonus point win and Swindon now find themselves at the top of the South West One East table.

Despite the perfect start Swindon head coach Sean Lynn will make sure his players do not get carried away at the start of what will be a long season.

“We have just got to keep our feet on the ground,” said Lynn.

“Leighton Buzzard dominated the scrum and set pieces and had a lot of possession.

“But fair play to the boys they defended well and we took our opportunities when they came along and moved them around the park.

“It was a good performance from Cameron Brown who managed the game and Ollie Newton with a hat-trick of tries.”

However, it was the the hosts who started brightly forcing Swindon on to the back foot.

Within the first four minutes Buzzard had missed two penalties allowing the visitors to capitalise on their poor finishing.

Cameron Brown opened the scoring after 20 minutes and Adam Westall kicked the conversion.

Swindon extended their lead on the half hour mark when centre Newton rounded off a good move to extend the lead to 12 points.

The Greenbridge Road side scored again before half-time through winger Mark Chatwin to make the score 17-0.

Swindon secured their bonus point after the break when Newton got his second of the game.

Leighton found a way back into the tie when the pack drove forward and scrum half Ed Ratcliffe was able to touch down for the try, with Daniel David kicking the conversion.

Swindon replied and in the sixty fifth minute Newton crossed for his hat-trick to secure the win.

The hosts did not give up though and got the last score of the game and Lynn expects them to do well this season.
