PURTON manager Justin Miller says that he is not going to over react after seeing his side concede five goals for the second match in succession in Hellenic League Division One West.

The Redhouse team were left to wonder what might have been at Carterton on Saturday as they were holding their hosts at 0-0 with 25 minutes on the clock.

But then a moment of madness from James Griffin gave Purton an uphill struggle as he was sent off for kicking out at an opponent.

Then a questionable penalty decision against Miller’s men saw them go 1-0 down and playing with 10 men.

One quickly became three as the Oxfordshire hosts took control of the match.

Miller brought himself on after the interval and the player-boss reduced the arrears as Purton looked to gain a foothold in the game and they had chances to bring the scoreline to 3-2.

However, as the visitors tired, Carterton struck twice in injury-time to ensure that the points stayed at Kilkenny Lane.

“The sending off was a sending off,” Miller said. “He kicked out and that is disappointing.

“The penalty on the other hand I’m not so sure. There were people behind the goal that said it wasn’t, but I didn’t see it clearly myself.

“I know that the scoreline doesn’t look great, especially after conceding five last week as well, but I’m not going to read too much into this match.

“Yes I know that we need to look keeping a clean sheet but we did play quite well with 10 men and we worked hard.”

Miller says that he hopes to see his squad settled down over the coming weeks after five players had to withdraw prior to the match.

“We had three players injured and another two that had to work,” Miller said. “I know that we have used quite a few players because of unavailability.

“But hopefully the squad should start getting back to normal soon and we can have a settled side.

“It is important that we stick together and look to put in a performance over the next week or two.”
