SWINDON showed a lot of character as they held on to maintain their 100 per cent start with a 25-13 win at Maidenhead.

After going down to 13 men for the last 10 minutes the Greenbridge Road side had to dig deep to keep Maidenhead at bay and secure the bonus point win to keep them top of the South West 1 East after three matches.

Ollie Wilson scored a brace for Swindon, including a fine solo effort from 40m when he showed terrific speed to beat his opposite and score.

Tries from Hayden Ambler and Tom Mannion secured the maximum point haul for visitors.

However, it was a nervy end to proceedings when prop Aide Hicks was sent off for two technical fouls, before fellow prop Scott Chapman went off injured and Swindon has used all their available replacements.

“It went really well, before the game we knew the front five would be key,” said head coach Sean Lynn.

“We knew it was going to be a big game up front and the boys fronted up well and we took our chances.

“Any turn over ball the boys were taking advantage of and that is how we scored the majority of our points.

“We ended with 13 men on the pitch and Maidenhead were on our line and we showed great character to hold them off.

“That character is what is going to get them through the difficult games.

“It is something we worked on a lot during pre season with a lot of team building and that team spirit was shown on Saturday.”
