SWINDON Supermarine chief Dave Webb thinks that his side will be regularly racking up points in the Southern League Division One South & West if they can replicate Saturday’s performance against Havant & Waterlooville.

Marine bowed out of the FA Cup at the second qualifying round stage as they were beaten 3-0 by their Conference South opponents in Hampshire, with JJ Hooper, Ed Harris and Josh Huggins all finding the net for the Hawks.

But whilst the scores were level for the majority of the first half, Dan Martin hooked a ball against the underside of the Havant crossbar whilst Luke Hopper was denied by goalkeeper Ryan Young.

Havant also finished the tie with ten men after former Wales international Brian Stock was sent off with around ten minutes to go and the Webb’s Wood Stadium boss was proud of his players’ display against one of the Conference South’s finest.

“When you looked at their squad, man-for-man, they had quality all over the pitch,” said the Marine manager.

“We went there and didn’t disgrace ourselves at all. They dominated possession, like you’d expect them to, but we tried to take the game to them when we had the ball.

“We had three big chances before they scored and if we’d taken one of them, or it had been 0-0 at half-time, it would have been interesting to see what happened.

“It was a good day for us and if we play like that in the league then we’ll win more games than we lose.”

Marine endured a difficult start to the season as they lost four of their opening five games but Webb thinks that things are finally starting to click for his team, despite them now playing catch-up in the league.

He added: “The shape of the team is looking pretty good now and I think that we’re improving.

“The only problem is that because we had such a difficult start, we’ve now got to go out trying to win every game - we’re in the position we’re in and that’s just what we have to do.

“We’re going to use this week to get some rest and just have the one (training) session - we need to take the Havant performance into the game at Evesham (next weekend).”
